On September 18th the Trabia Tallarita Museum, in the heart of the Salso Valley, will open its doors to host the TEDxRiesi, a special event for all of Sicily. The ever-present goal of TEDx, the most famous talks format in the world, is to offer a new way to talk about and listen to one another, celebrate innovation and curiosity and inspire people, all through the voice of those who have generated an impact with ideas and projects.
The story of TEDx
Started in 1984 as a four-day conference in California, TED (which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design) has expanded the topics covered over time, to the point of hosting talks relating to architecture, science, business, politics, education, adventure and much more. The conference has thus become an annual event to discuss new ideas in all areas of human creativity and innovation. The speakers' interventions are all filmed and collected on the ted.com website
“Isole verso nuove frontiere”
For the entire day of September 18th, the city of Riesi will be the privileged meeting place between brilliant minds, creative ideas and innovative projects that deserve to be shared. The theme of this edition of TEDxRiesi will be "Islands towards new frontiers". The speakers will discuss the theme of the island from different points of view and in all its declinations, introducing spectators on a journey between "islands" with different facets and different meanings. The theme of the island is central, because it represents a reflection on a place - not just physical - that exists, that resists, that overcomes adversity. This concept acquires further meaning if thought in the context of a region like Sicily which is faced with atavistic problems every day. A land from which young people flee to train and acquire know-how in the rest of Italy or abroad, but also an island to which young people return, to bring the skills acquired, invest in their territory and watch it grow. Each speaker will thus tell his vision of the "island", bringing to the stage the many interpretations of this theme, not only as a place, but above all as a concept.
Why the choice of Riesi?
The organizers of TEDxRiesi reflect on the challenge represented by the choice of the city of Riesi as the stage for an event belonging to the TEDx format. The territory, in this case, is a central element and the hope of TEDxRiesi is to make the event a point of reference both for the city of Riesi and for the entire Italian panorama, in which lovers of positive change and innovation can find space
Riesi is a particular city, which today has the sad record of being the country with the highest emigration rate among towns with a population between 10 thousand and 100 thousand inhabitants, from which 11 thousand inhabitants have left in the last 4 years due to isolation and crime - according to the Il Sole 24 Ore ranking. An opportunity, therefore, to reflect and look to the future with the awareness of belonging to a suffering land, which however has within it the strength to be reborn. TEDxRiesi is a challenge with and for the territory, a social experiment, an arena in which to create the stimuli that we are all called to grasp.

Among the nine speakers of the day who will take turns on the round and red carpet typical of TEDx, Simone Massaro, founder and CEO of Free Mind Foundry and BaxEnergy, will also be present, who will present his talk entitled "Digital islands for modern Ulysses". His contribution will focus on sharing a new mindset that leads to conceiving Sicily as a land of many possibilities. Also participating as speakers will be Flavia Amoroso, Operation Manager of South Working® - Work from the South, Emilio Casalini, cultural designer, storyteller, TV presenter, Paola Galuffo, curator of the Peripheral project, Morgana Orsetta Ghini and Luca Lagash, co-founders of the OP Collettivo, Grammenos Mastrojeni, diplomat and writer, Andreina Serena Romano, Sole Director and Founder of Heroes S.r.l., Claudia Segre, president and founder of the Global Thinking Foundation ETS.
